Christmas in this Economy?

The holidays are only a few weeks away, but I want to send out this reminder to you, Reader.

YOU have the power this Christmas season!

YOU have the right to say NO to situations that cause stress, anxiety, and financial hardship.

YOU have the opportunity to create new traditions.

YOU decide how you want to feel after the holidays are over.

And I want you to think about something: if you couldn't post anything about your holidays on social media, would you do things differently? It seems that many of us are performing "for the gram" or for TikTok, which means many of us are decorating, gifting, and celebrating for other people instead of for ourselves, our families, and our core memories.

As I think about all of the Christmases we've celebrated, I don't remember any of the gifts. I do remember the feeling of warmth, family, and safety. When my six-year-old talks about Christmas, she remembers the time we went to the zoo to see the lights. It was a free event, and we brought cookies and hot cocoa in a thermos from home. Nothing fancy, but the memory stuck with her. It's an example of how, as adults, we may feel like we need to match the Christmas energy of a Hallmark movie when, in the end, it's the simple things that matter.

To help you celebrate Christmas without breaking the bank, I've rounded up some of my Christmas money videos.

Reply to this email if you've got a tip I didn't cover or leave a comment in one of the videos.
